Sadeq Hedayat's "Blind Owl" is considered the most important work of modern Persian prose. At the time of writing "Blind Owl", the author was already declared a banned writer in Shah's Iran, and he managed to publish the novel only outside his homeland, in India (1937). The book was smuggled into Iran, where it was officially published after the resignation of Reza-Shah Pahlavi (1942).
