Annotation

"If the concept of freedom means anything at all, it is, first of all, the right to tell a person the truth he doesn't want." - wrote Orwell in 1945, in the preface to "Animal House". These words probably say everything about the purpose of writing this book and its purpose. "Animals' Gate" - a book in which the Soviet totalitarian regime is described allegorically, but very clearly, was, of course, banned in the countries of the Soviet Union. However, the publication of the book in Orwell's homeland, Great Britain, an ally of the Soviet Union at the time, also met with considerable resistance. This is what Orwell writes about in the preface, which is called "Freedom of the Press". In it, the writer exposes the British publishers, and in general, the British intellectuals in their overly loyal attitude towards the Soviet Union and their rejection of Stalin's criticism. However, this preface itself fell victim to the censorship criticized in it, and in August 1945, Animal House was printed in Britain without it. After Orwell's death, it was discovered in the writer's archive in 1972, however, it was included in a book for the first time only in 1993, by one of the American publications. The new translation of "Animals' Yard" is also special in that it also includes the descriptive essay defined by Orwell as a preface to the book in the Georgian language for the first time. The content of the book and the preface have one very important thing in common: both of them fight against such a vicious side of human history, which does not recognize borders and eras and constantly follows us like a dark shadow.
