"Philosophy in the Boudoir" is the first book of the most outrageous French writer of the 18th-19th centuries, Donatie Alphonse Francois de Sade, aka Marquis de Sade (1740-1814), which was translated into Georgian.
Marquis de Sade had a great influence on European culture: romantics, decadents and nihilists, and later on surrealists, who call him "the divine Marquis".
The name of Marquis de Sade was used by the psychiatrist Richard von Krafft-Ebbing when he called the pleasure caused by inflicting pain on others as sadism. De Sade was imprisoned several times for his brutal treatment of women and wrote most of his works behind bars.
"Philosophy in the Boudoir" was written in 1795. Critics believe that in this novel, Sadie tries to transform theory (philosophy) into practice (eroticism), and practice into philosophy.
