Brand History

Raki as a drink has existed in the Turkish consciousness for over 500 years. Raki, distilled using grapes, raisins and anise, was first mentioned in literature in 1510. It was then widely used throughout the Ottoman Empire and in 1937 became known as Yeni Rakı, meaning "new rakı", symbolizing the new, post-war era. Yeni Rakı's rich heritage is matched by its rich taste. It is layered and dramatic with notes of aniseed and distilled grape. This flavor is created through a highly refined distillation process. It is a tried and tested process. The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed to obtain the suma, then the suma is distilled, mixed with aniseed and re-distilled in copper barrels. The finished Yeni Rakı is then aged in oak barrels for at least 30 days to soften and develop its final distinctive taste.
