French cartoonist Jean-Jacques Sampe (1932–2022) was first published in L'Express, and since 1978 he has published hundreds of cartoons in the New Yorker. His work is closely related to René Gossini, Modiano and Patrick Ziuskind. Without him, such characters as Little Nicola, Catherine, Little Dancer and Mr. Zomer would be unthinkable.
