Annotation

Firuz Kazemzade's book "The Struggle for Transcaucasia 1917-1921" is one of the first attempts in Western academic circles to describe and understand this period of history. The book describes the echoes of the events in Russia in 1917 in the Transcaucasia, the influence of the countries participating in the First World War on the political, economic and military situation in the Transcaucasia in a language understandable to the general reader. The book clearly describes the reasons for the creation and dissolution of the Transcaucasian Federal Republic and the prerequisites for Georgia's independence. The book also analyzes the events in Azerbaijan and Armenia and the history of the loss of independence by these three newly emerging republics. The occupation of Transcaucasia by the Bolshevik Russian army is described. The book was first published in 1951 and, for obvious reasons, was unavailable to Georgian readers. This is the first translation of this book into Georgian language. The book uses archival materials and memories available at that time. The basic assumptions and assumptions are correct and are shared by modern historiography as well. About the author: Firuz Kazemzadeh (1924-2016) was born in the family of an Iranian diplomat and received his primary education in Moscow, where his father worked in the Iranian embassy. The family then moved to the USA and in 1944, the scientist continued his studies at Stanford University. In 1947, he received a master's degree there. In 1950, F. Kazemzade received a doctor's degree from Harvard University in the field of Russian history. He was a professor at Harvard in 1954-1957, and at Yale University for the rest of his career.
