Brand History

The Elgin Valley is one of South Africa's most popular wine regions. Traditionally a hotspot for apple farmers, it's a good area for vineyards thanks to its unique terroir, where the altitude and Atlantic influence offer vines a cooler, longer growing season. Spioenkop was bought by Cohen and Hannelore Roose, a Belgian couple who continue their dream of living closer to nature and making wines. All vines are hand picked as the steep rocky slopes are dangerous for a tractor, the farm boasts seven different soil textures and each variety is planted to the appropriate type to make the vine work. Cohen and Lore have a passion for creating elegant wines that are sexy and fresh, but at the same time unique and even a little wild. These are amazing wines that are all about expression and quality.
