5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan, also known as oxytryptophan) - is an essential amino acid that is a precursor of the neurotransmitter serotonin. 5-HTP is produced in the body from the amino acid tryptophan, and it can be obtained synthetically from the seeds of the African plant Griffonia simplicifolia. 5-HTP easily passes the blood-brain barrier and enhances serotonin synthesis in the CNS. Serotonin improves mood, regulates sleep, relieves depression, reduces anxiety, suppresses appetite, has a positive effect on pain, temperature perception and sexual behavior disorders.
