Selenium is an irreplaceable trace element, which is found in the human body as amino acids - in the form of selenocysteine and selenomethionine.
It is included in the composition of up to two hundred enzymes and hormones. It is a cofactor of the most powerful antioxidant enzyme - selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase, which neutralizes the most aggressive free radicals and protects cells from their harmful effects.

Studies have shown that taking an additional 200 mcg of selenium daily with the daily diet protects the thyroid gland from damage caused by excessive iodine consumption.
