Brand History

Founded in 2007, Pheasant Tears produces artisanal natural wines using the ancient Georgian method of growing rare endemic grape varieties and harvesting with organic processes. Their name comes from a Georgian fairy tale in which the hero declares that only great wine can make a pheasant cry tears of joy. The brand is a member of the Natural Wine Association. "Tears of Pheasants" is located in the mountainous village of Sighnagh, in the Eastern Kakheti region of Georgia, which is famous for its history and culture of wine production. The fertile valley of the Alazni River and the Caucasus Mountains stretch to the north of the winery, 110 kilometers from Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

History Of The Winemaker

The founder of "Pheasant Tears" is winemaker John Wurdemann. John Vurdeman has been living in the house since 1995 with his wife Ketevan Mindorashvili and two children. For more than fifteen years, the Vurdeman family has been actively promoting Georgian natural wine and polyphonic songs in Georgia and the world. He is one of the key figures who will introduce new wineries producing natural wine and Kvevari wine from different corners of Georgia to sommeliers and wine writers of the world's highest class restaurants.
