Brand History
The Merlet & Fils company was founded in 1850 by Firmin Merlet, heir to a famous winemaking dynasty, near the French village of Saint-Sovant, in the Saintonge region. Merle began by distilling brandy that was supplied to the Hennessy house. Since the 70s, Gilles Merle, in addition to grapes, decided to grow black currants. The result of such a risky production experiment was the unique cream liqueur "Creme de Cassis", which laid the foundation for the creation of a complete range of berry cream liqueurs. The company also started producing cognac under its own brand "Le Maitre", using the company's best spirits, aged in Limousin oak barrels. Merle & Fiss has been owned by Pierre and Luc Merle since 2005, focusing on the development of new brands.
