Brand History

Grand Marnier is a brand of orange liqueur produced by the Lapostol family since 1870, but the history of Grand Marnier goes back to 1827. It was then that Jean-Baptiste Lapostol opened a small distillery near Paris. He needed to know how to distill, so he traveled to the cognac region to study the trade, eventually bringing his stock of cognac back to his cellars. In 1870, Jean-Baptiste's nephew, Louis-Alexandre Marnier-Lapostole, invented a liqueur that combined the alcoholic extract of Caribbean bigarade oranges, brandy, and sugar syrup and called it Grand Marnier. Slow aging in French oak barrels gives it an incomparable roundness and finesse. It has become a popular part of French cuisine.
