To date, there is no scientific, scientific - popular, or even artistic work of this type; No film was shot, no conference was held. This book is the first attempt in Georgian discourse to focus on the role and influence of Stalin on the fate of Georgia in the 20th century.
The idea for this book emerged two years ago when it became clear that, as the figure of Stalin grew in popularity, his prominence in the Russian information war agenda was advancing. The team of the Laboratory for the Study of the Soviet Past conducted an in-depth study for more than a year, on which the book is based. This is a collaborative project between Sovlab and the author of the text, the writer Lasha Bugadze, who actively worked with the Sovlab team.
The story develops according to the principle of parallel narration - on the one hand, Stalin's life and political path, and on the other hand, the project of modern and democratic Georgia, the incompatibility and conflict with which is one of the most hidden and, at the same time, dramatic parts of Stalin's life.
Although the book is not an academic work, it is equipped with a scientific apparatus. During the research process, the team processed an extensive corpus of documentary sources and several, largely forgotten, important memoirs where the authors recount personal experiences. Most of these texts have never been published.
