The history of Moet Chandon, where Dom Perignon is produced, began in 1743, when Claude Moet began delivering wine from the Champagne region to Paris and other French cities. The reign of Louis XV coincided with an increase in demand for sparkling wine, so Claude's business expanded rapidly, and by the end of the 18th century he was exporting champagne throughout Europe and even to the United States. Claude's grandson, Jean-Remy Moet, attracted the attention of such elite clients as Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon Bonaparte. The surname Chandon was added to the company's name in 1832, when Jean-Remy Maugham divided the firm between his son Victor and son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel de Brier Chandon. Moet Chandon is an invariable attribute of social life all over the world. In 1971 Moet Chandon merged with Hennessy Cognac House, in 1987 with Louis Vuitton. As a result, LVMH (Louis-Vuitton-Moet-Hennessy) holding was created, the world's largest Luxury Group, which includes such famous brands as Guerlain, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Kenzo, Christian Lacroix, Hennessy, Louis Vuitton. and many others.
