Brand History

This famous liqueur was produced by Benedictine monks for three hundred years, until the French Revolution of 1789. Three hundred and fifty years after its invention, Alexandre Le Grand, a wine merchant and collector of art and religious prescriptions, discovered it in his collection. A forgotten cryptic formula for liquor. In 1876, Le Grand created the Benedictine Company, which received official permission from the head of the Benedictine Order for the exclusive production of alcoholic beverages. After a year of unsuccessful attempts, he was able to recreate the mysterious elixir, which he called "Benedictine". Alexandre Le Grand built an impressive mansion near his home in Fécamp, where he began producing spirits.
