Brand History

In 1849, brothers Adolphe and Edouard-Jean Quantreau opened a factory for the production of berry liqueurs in the city of Angers. In 1875, Edouard-Jean's son - also Edouard - created a recipe for an orange liqueur with an incomparable taste, using both bitter and sweet citrus varieties from the best harvest. For three generations, the Cointreau family kept the secret of their liqueur production a secret. In 1885, Edouard created a patent for the name and shape of the bottle, which is why Cointreau liqueur is easily recognizable today.
