Bruno Schultz was born in 1892 in the provincial town of Drogobych of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. All his life he worked as a teacher of drawing and labor in a local school, and his death took place in the same city - in 1942, Schultz was shot in the head by a Gestapo officer, Karl Günther, while walking on the street. A year earlier, when the Nazis occupied Drogobych, the Jew Schultz gave a large part of his paintings and manuscripts to non-Jewish friends for safekeeping. Nothing survived from there.
