The history of Avenal Petfood SA dates back to 1954, however, the current administration took over the management in 1991 and continued to expand the company, reaching a turnover of 2 million euros at the end of the same year. In 1999, under the name Rações Avenal SA, the brand became the first Portuguese company to exclusively produce dry food for dogs and cats. In 2017, under the current name, a new production unit was opened in Monte Redondo - Leiria (current headquarters). This new production unit represents a significant technological advance that allows for the production of more and higher quality products, which is why in 2021 Avenal Petfood was awarded the maximum "Top Level" certificate of the IFS Food standard.
