"Austerlitz" is the last novel of Winfried Georg Sebald, which was published in 2001, shortly before the death of the writer. In 1967, in the central railway station of Antwerp, the narrator meets Jacques Austerlitz, an art historian, whose life story we gradually learn. Four-year-old Austerlitz was shunned by the Nazis and taken, along with other Jewish children, from Czechoslovakia to Great Britain, where he was brought up by a Welsh priest. Years later, Austerlitz is searching all over Europe for his lost past.
