Disaronno is a company that produces the most famous Italian liqueur in the world, and the following story is told about the drink - in 1525, the church of Saronno commissioned the artist Bernardino Luini, one of Leonardo da Vinci's students, to paint the altar with frescoes. Since the church was dedicated to the Virgin Mary, Lewin needed to depict the Madonna, although he needed a model to do so. He found his inspiration in a young, widowed innkeeper. As a gift for him, the woman poured apricot kernels into brandy and made the first amaretto liqueur, which the company still produces.
