The book presents parallel texts of three hagiographical monuments - "The Torture of Shushanik", "The Torture of Abo" and "The Life of Grigol Khandzteli", one of which represents the old Georgian original, and the other - the most inaccurate version in the new Georgian language. The purpose of such a publication is, on the one hand, to help the learning process and to facilitate students' access to texts, and on the other hand, to open the way to these unique sources for many people interested in the history, culture and literature of Georgia, who today understand little of ancient Georgian.
Hagiographic works are traditionally printed with great abridgements, especially in educational editions. In this edition, we shortened the texts of "Abo's Torture" and "Grigol Khandzeteli's Life" to a minimum, while "Shushanik's Torture" is presented practically in its entirety. The texts are preceded by the introductory letters of the philologist Levan Gigineishvili, where the main aspects - historical, religious, literary and others - are presented with deep knowledge and popular language, taking into account these flawless examples of Georgian writing.
