Street art

As time goes by, street art ("street art") is becoming more and more popular all over the world, including in Georgia. Artworks have multiplied in the streets of Tbilisi, and some of them have become completely characteristic of the city. However, no separate album has been published in our country about this interesting current of art. This is the first attempt. Various festivals are held in Georgia from time to time, where Georgian and foreign artists create a lot of interesting works in the urban space. Streetart is often used from a commercial point of view. Street painting has become a means of self-expression for professional, novice or amateur artists. Not infrequently, the works carry a social and political message. Artists are trying to make the city more colorful, lively, interactive. For street artists, this is an alternative means of communication between art and society, and nothing can prevent this relationship - the painted walls will be painted again! Streetart works often disappear from city streets, sometimes even within a few hours of their performance. Walls painted at the request of artists sometimes attract the attention of city managers, and sometimes they are unacceptable to citizens. Artists sometimes work in secret. Sometimes they have permission from the city hall to paint the walls, and sometimes they choose dull, gray walls and bring them to life. In this album, we collected a certain number of works performed in the streets of Tbilisi in recent years. Some of them still exist, some are damaged, and some have already disappeared. It is true that the album includes a number of outstanding examples of modern Tbilisi street art, but it would be hard for us to say that the publication includes all the best examples of Tbilisi street art of the last period. Due to the constant change of the existing picture, achieving such a goal would be difficult and the result conditional. On the other hand, finding, fixing and cataloging the samples scattered all over Tbilisi is beyond the goals and capabilities of our project. This album is a one-of-a-kind urban chronicle, which has seen specific examples doomed to perish for future generations, and reflects contemporary trends in street art. That is why in the book you will find samples of different genres, different scales and artistic values. The album uses photos of Zurab Tsertsvadze, authors and Tbilisi Mural fest.
