Julio Cortázar was born on August 26, 1914, in Brussels. His parents were citizens of Argentina and served in the diplomatic mission in Belgium during the First World War. In 1919, the family already settled near Buenos Aires. His father soon abandoned his wife and children, and Cortásar grew up with his mother and younger sister. After graduation, Cortázar worked as a school teacher for seven years. From 1944, he taught French literature at the University of Mendoza. Due to the political pressure of the Peronists, he was forced to leave his teaching activities and continue working in the book chamber. In 1951, Cortázar immigrated to France, where he lived until the end of his life. For years he worked as an interpreter at UNESCO. He traveled a lot. Actively campaigned against human rights violations in Latin America. He sympathized with Salvador Allende and Fidel Castro. Died in Paris, buried in Montparnasse Cemetery. Cortásar's literary career began in 1938 with a collection of sonnets. After that, he did not publish any more poetry, although he wrote. A poetry collection was published only after his death, and his prose - short stories and novels - brought him fame, especially his masterpiece, "Klasobana", which was published in 1963. Since the 60s, the whole world has been covered by the "Latin-American boom". The names of Cortázar, Marquez, Vargas Llosa and others were on everyone's lips. The Latin-American novel has become a separate, independent concept. According to many, the "boom" started with "Klasobanat", this great literary experiment, where everything is gathered together: tragedy and drama, lyric and humor, jazz and erotica, essay and newspaper article, metaphor and hyperbole, reality and hallucination, feelings, Playing with words, people, and other things that Julio Cortázar invented himself.
